POSITION:               Sales Engineer

DEPARTMENT:       Commercial Sales

LOCATION:              Quad Cities (Davenport, IA, Bettendorf, IA, Rock Island, IL and Moline, IL)

REPORTS TO:           Commercial Sales Manager  


PURPOSE:                 Maximize sales including:

  1. Establishing relationships with consulting engineers for basis of design with Habegger Products.
  2. Sales calls with mechanical contractors to negotiate Habegger Products.
  3. Establish relationships with building owners/facility managers to position the sale of Habegger Products.




Make sales calls to assigned customer accounts to understand their business needs and provide the best solution.  Sales calls will include various formats including: Lunch and learn presentations, schedule one on one appointment, group meetings, off site customer events, and factory trips. 



Sales engineer is responsible for exceeding sales quota each year while maximizing profit margins.  Sales quotas are given out by the sales manager/regional manager for each sales engineer based on accounts, years of industry experience, and ability. 

General sales quotas include:

  1. One to Three Years of Selling Experience - $1.5M to $2M Quota.
  2. Three to Five Years of Selling Experience - $2M to $3M Quota.
  3. Five Years and beyond of Selling Experience - $3M to $5M Quota



Provide technical assistance to customers to ensure proper equipment selection and appropriate application to achieve the desired project objective.  Price equipment; develop scope and/or proposal for equipment selected including any required costs such as options, accessories, delivery and other costs that may be associated with the project. 



Assist Branch Manager and other sales engineers to implement marketing strategies to achieve corporate sales goals or market share.  Sales Engineer will be responsible for a quarterly market/account development activity to increase local product awareness.  Recommended activities include: Engineering breakfast on industry topic, Engineering conference / technical session, arrange and organize a product site visit/demo, and/or organize a factory visit with customers.



Maintain membership and participate in various professional organizations as directed by the Commercial Sales Manager.  Attend meetings and volunteer as necessary to maintain presence and promote the Habegger and Carrier Corporations.  ASHRAE will be a required organization plus one other.



Collaborate with existing outside sales engineers and inside support team.  Work together on bid day to help ensure successful bid to contractors.  Attend and actively participate in weekly sales meetings.  Coordinate weekly activities and customer communications with inside sales team for seamless face to customer.



Timely completion of expense reports and call sheets.  Yearly completion of self evaluations. Employee initiative for training needs.  Maintain an atmosphere of cooperation and team spirit with all company associates.  Assist other departments and perform job related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering; mechanical engineering preferred.  Skills with word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, and Excel.  Presentation skills to present various presentations on HVAC topics and products.

Ability to make decisions without close supervision. Must be accurate, efficient and capable of handling detailed work assignments.  Proven ability to work independently and self-motivated; also work cooperatively and motivate other associates.  Ability to maintain self-control and complete tasks with frequent interruptions.  Flexibility to adapt to changes in organizational structure and move among departments when necessary.  Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
